“The Butler's Retreat is a gem in the Peak District. Staying here is an unique experience for our trip in England. Although we arrived in a dark foggy evening on a mid-winter day, Sir Richard came to our rescue instantly and put us into the warm and cozy apartment. The interior, as shown in the photos, is stylishly decorated with nostalgic items as well as modern amenities. The little village itself is very quite in winter, i will definitely consider visiting again in the future”

“Our aim was to find the nicest place near Sheffield. And this is certainly the nicest place I've stayed in, I think Tissington hall was amazing, more than I'd hoped for”

“Fantastic place to stay in a great location, ideal for walking routes and cosy country pubs nearby. Very helpful and friendly host welcoming us to the Retreat and making sure we had everything we needed. The place was immaculately clean and had all we needed and more. I would definitely recommend a trip to the Butler's Retreat”

“Although we live only half an hour away, it feels like a world away.
The Butlers Retreat is both beautiful and homely, we have been very comfortable and were provided with everything we needed.
Thank-you and we hope to be regular visitors if we can get in as we are sure you are going to be very busy.
P.S The Wifi was great which was a great help !”

“Charming and homely little apartment, tucked around the side of the beautiful Tissington Hall. The village itself was gorgeous, and everyone from Sir Richard to the staff in the local coffee shops were really welcoming and friendly. Would definitely stay there again!”

“The only way our stay in Tissington could have been any better was if we had been able to stay longer (but we were en route to a wedding). The location was beautiful, the butler's retreat was delightfully restored with all the modern comforts you would want, and Sir Richard was very welcoming. He recommended a lovely little pub a short drive away where we were able to have a simple candlelit dinner before returning for a great night's sleep. Most definitely a relaxing get-away. We would highly recommend staying longer to explore the surroundings more thoroughly, and indeed hope to be able to do so ourselves in the future.”
Butlers Retreat Trip Advisor Client Review - August 2016
We were delighted with our stay in The Bulter's Retreat suite, which is part of the old servants' quarters at Tissington Hall.
The elegantly decorated suite comprises a lovely, spaceous bedroom with sitting area and very comfortable bed; a nicely appointed bathroom with bath and shower, and a cosy kitchen, suitable for continental style breakfasting.
The Butler's Retreat is very peaceful, and feels a bit special!
Tissington is the most gorgeous little estate village, with beautiful stone cottages, church, duck pond, and wells which are dressed during the summer (unfortunately, we missed this).
There is Herbert's Tearooms, a trekking centre, candle-maker, butcher, etc, all in the village, harking back to when the estate would have been thriving with artisans and activity. There are some nice local pubs, notably The Old Dog where we had a decent burger style meal and very good beer.
Local small towns are Ashbourne and Bakewell and there are lots of opportunities for walks. We stayed over a wet weekend, but managed to venture about 10 miles along the Tissington Trail , a former railway line, now a flat pathway through some very pretty Peak District scenery. We took a bus back to Tissington from Hartington village: The Peak District is so beautiful, and much less congested than the Lakes. We certainly hope to return soon.
